I keep seeing eggs dyed with red cabbage on Pinterest and I decided to try it today. The unique thing about it is that the cabbage is red and after boiling, it turns the egg shells blue! It really is easy to do. You chop the cabbage up and place it in a pot with water. I heated it to a boil and then turned it to simmer for a half hour. After it cooled, I strained the cabbage and kept the liquid. I added about a spoon of vinegar next. Then I put some of the liquid in a cup. In the mean time, I blew the insides out of an egg. I placed the eggshell in a cup and covered it with the cabbage juice. I covered the cup so the shell was submerged, and kept it there for a couple of hours. When I took it out of the juice it was this pretty blue!
I basically did the same procedure to do the pink egg, except to get this color, I boiled avocado skins in water until the water became a pretty rosey pink color. I took the liquid, added a little vinegar and submerged a blown eggshell into the liquid for a couple of hours.
I did not use hard boiled eggs because I want to be able to leave the eggs (shell) out until Easter. I also wasn't sure how they would taste. If you are interested in trying the cabbage dyed eggs you will find many ideas on Pinterest.
