I made this clothespin bag out of vintage linen. When I finished it, I wasn't too excited about it, and decided to embellish it with a little dress I made years ago after I saw one in a magazine. It's not practical for outside, but it would look cute in a laundry room!
I made this pocket sewing kit out of a piece of antique quilt my sister gave me. I am fascinated with the antique soldier's "housewife" kits that were made in the middle of the 18th century.
This is one of those days when I just started pulling out materials and let my creativity take over. As you know, I love buttons! I decided to make a couple of buttons cards, and that turned into making a large card that can be mailed or given as a gift. Then I started adding collaged materials onto an envelope. These are a few of the projects I created.
Pil*low: a piece of cloth stuffed with soft materials, used to support the head when lying down.
Pillows have gone from a comfortable head support to making a statement. They may be made with pretty fabrics, quilted loveliness, of collaged fabrics. The choice definitely speaks of who we are and what we think. I love pretty pillows! I think I sell more pillows than anything else I make. I sold a big pillow with the "Give it a Try" saying on it. The woman who bought it asked me to make another one like it for a gift. I do not take special orders, but I did in this rare case. I made the quote to large for the pillow and decided to make an additional pillow so it wasn't wasted. I'm happy with how both turned out. Then I had a quilted piece with coyotes and I used that for the front of a pillow and I used a piece of Kantha quilt for the back of the pillow. The last pillow is made from miscellaneous pieces I collaged together. Sweet Dreams! My sister's and I attended Art Unraveled earlier this month. We had such fun taking an upcycled garment class. Here are a few of the pieces I worked on. My sister Elaine put us to shame with her sewing skills, but we all ended up making garments that we liked.
I always try and make cute tags for the items I sell on Etsy or at vintage shows. I had a ton of old button cards, so I sat down and made a bunch on tags. Once again, I used things I had on hand. Then I found a pretty lace holder that the tags fit into. They are easy to find & look SEW sweet!
I saw this bench at the thrift store, and I knew I could do something cute with it, but I passed on it. Then I was out playing on Saturday and the store was having a half off sale. Well, for half off I decided it was worth waiting in line to buy it. I brought it home, sanded it down, painted it, distressed it a little and recovered the seats with fabric I had. The whole project took me about 4 hours. The fun thing about this bench is if you get tired of the seat fabric you can just recover them in minutes. Sew Easy!
